Sexism in comic books and video games

Hello, I begged and pleaded with Poison in order for me to do this topic, and with much thought I decided to release this after he did his Comic Con, because I thought it to be fitting.

I will start with comic books, because I know comic books slightly better than I know video games, and specifically when I say comic books, I will mean the original American versions of comic books. Not saying that the other cultures do not have rampant raging sexism in their comic books (or manga, or whatever…), it is more so that I am more familiar with American pop culture and thus I shall be talking about American pop culture.

Newton’s Cradle

I. Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it.
II. The relationship between an object’s mass m, its acceleration a, and the applied force F is F = ma. Acceleration and force are vectors (as indicated by their symbols being displayed in slant bold font); in this law the direction of the force vector is the same as the direction of the acceleration vector.
III. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

“And what are you?” my mom asked me.
“I like both,” was my soft answer.
And after bickering back and forth about what I meant, and finally getting through to her that I am bisexual, the words that left her mouth next are words that will be forever burned into my mind.
“I reject. You should die.” Continue reading

Equality for Almost All of Us

What is the role of a man in society today? Depending on where you go you’ll find that the role of the male gender is changing to become something more ambiguous. Meanwhile, in other places men hold a more traditional role as provider, protectors and as pillars of strength. Traditionally, in most societies men have all held the role as provider, protectors and pillars of strength thus why the ideal of a man being strong, independent and overall proud has been passed down through generations. Even in societies where gender roles are becoming more ambiguous men are still viewed as ‘strong’ and this kind of thinking has come to work against us. Continue reading

Power to the Wrong People

Don’t you love when the wrong people are allowed to be in positions of power?  You know, idiots and close minded people who are ushered into positions of power at work, at home and in the country you live in. Yes, it’s a fact of life that no matter where you are if you are not the idiot in power then you are probably ruled by one. But what determines one as being qualified for such positions in life? In some cases it’s determined by right of god/birth which I think is complete bullshit. In other cases it’s determined by means of merit.  Do you want to know which one I’m more likely to trust right now? Easily it’s right of god/birthright only because we have a chance to properly groom this leader from the time they are born to be able to properly lead… Sadly that has proven to fail a lot of the time.  Plus, I don’t want to be ruled by some fat monarch. Canada

Happy Canada Day people. All around us we’re feeling the patriotic spirit… as most of our core members here @ A-Soul have gone south of the border for the long weekend… Yes, we Canadians have a strong sense of national pride and identity. It really shows when we high tail it down to the American stores on holidays to rob/take advantage of the land of the free/cheap-as-hell in order to benefit ourselves before heading back to our cold, beloved North where we get free health care. Alright people! We’ve hit the ground running with a new post about a new event to keep you all informed and entertained. This weekend past, Solstice and I hit the streets of downtown Toronto for Slutwalk 2011. Since I’ve been barred from writing an opinion piece concerning the event in question I will give some slight background on what the hell this event was. Continue reading
